Glacial Influence Explored at Stage’s Pond State Nature Preserve on June 13

Hosted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Natural Areas and Preserves, a free naturalist-led hike will introduce visitors to various landscapes on Saturday, June 13 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Sheldon Marsh Roving Naturalist Guide Series

Starting in May, and continuing throughout the summer, on the first and third Sunday of each month, a preserve naturalist will be on-site at Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve from 9 a.m. – noon to answer questions and help identify the rare plants and animals found at this 500-acre preserve.

Habitat Protection for Eastern Massasaugas

While the Division of Natural Areas and Preserves is best known for its native plant expertise, the statewide nature preserve system also provides habitat for rare wildlife species. During a visit to one of our northeast Ohio preserves, manager Adam Wohlever had the opportunity to see the Eastern Massasauga (Sistrurus catenatus), one of Ohio’s rarest reptiles.
