Posted on 9/10/2015 by State Nature Preserves

Family-friendly evening hike held on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

ASHVILLE, OH- Are you curious about the seasonal travel of the sun through the sky and the effects on the natural world? The Ohio Department of Natural Resources invites the public to Stages Pond State Nature Preserve on Saturday, Sept. 19 to observe the setting of the sun and learn more about the Autumnal Equinox.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the large parking lot near the preserve office, participants will be led on a 1.5-mile hike to discuss the contrasts between different locations of sunrise and sunset on the different solstice and equinox dates. The naturalist-led program will also cover the effects of decreasing daylight hours and the impact of the sun on natural processes.

Please dress for the weather and choose appropriate footwear for hiking, as conditions may be muddy. If you have any questions, please call Jim Osborn at (740)-380-8918.

Stages Pond is located in Pickaway County 5 miles north of Circleville on U.S. Route 23; proceed 1.5 miles east on Hagerty Road to the preserve parking lot and trail system. For more information about Stages Pond, visit http://naturepreserves.ohiodnr.gov/stagespond.
