Winter Hike at Davis Memorial State Nature Preserve

Are you getting cabin fever yet? Get out and enjoy the beautiful scenes of Ohio in winter during an interpretive hike at Davis Memorial State Nature Preserve. The hike will take place on February 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. and is appropriate for all ages.

During this easygoing hike, you will learn the history of Davis Memorial State Nature Preserve and admire the stunning beauty of this preserve. The hike will be approximately 1.5 miles long and skirt along the Sullivantia, Buckeye, and Agave Ridge Trails. It is a great opportunity for the whole family to enjoy nature.

Hikers are asked to assemble in the north parking lot of the preserve entrance, near the stone kiosk. Please have sturdy foot wear due to possible icy conditions during the hike.


Davis Memorial State Nature Preserve


The 168-acre Davis State Nature Preserve is one of 136 state nature preserves managed by the ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves. Known for its wild flowers and 16 rare plants in the warmer months, Davis Memorial State Nature Preserve is an amazing place to discover how geology has affected the topography in the cooler months. Several types of bedrock will be discussed during the hike along with several sink holes and small caves that cover the area. The preserve is open sunrise to sunset year-round.

Davis Memorial State Nature Preserve is located east of Peebles, Ohio. Take St. Rt. 32 East from Peebles, then turn right onto Steam Furnace Rd. for 0.5 miles, then turn left onto Davis Memorial Road for approximately 2 miles, the parking lot and stone kiosk will be on your right.
