Large White Trillium - Trillium grandiflorum

Large White Trillium

Large white trillium (Trillium grandiflorum), also known as great white trillium, blooms in April. Large white trillium was dubbed the official Ohio wildflower in 1987. The plant is most commonly found growing in the understory of rich deciduous upland temperate forests. When this trillium blooms the petals start out white and slowly turn pink as they age. Trilliums are long lived plants; large white trillium can live for 25 years and it may take more than 3 years before the flowers are ready to bloom. This spectacular plant can be found in all of Ohio’s 88 counties.
