It’s difficult to believe our Ohio wildflower season has begun for 2017! Skunk cabbage, our earliest bloomer, was open and receptive to pollinators in late January. Volunteers spotted our second bloomer, harbinger-of-spring, in Highland County on February 11! We typically see this species blooming in late February and early March.
We’ve had a very different spring wildflower season this year compared to last. Cool temperatures and rain have dominated. The end result gave us a long, slow, season. But while it may not have been intense and condensed as last year, it was beautiful none the less.
