Spring officially arrives this weekend! Unfortunately, a cold snap is in store, with the possibility of frost in the forecast. Freezing temperatures can damage the delicate blooms of our native spring wildflowers. Fortunately, in northern Ohio, where we will likely see the coldest temperatures, most wildflowers remain underground. In extreme southern Ohio, many new species began blooming this week.
With last weekend’s cool temperatures and rain late this week, our wildflower season has progressed relatively slowly. The upside? You still have plenty of time to see the early spring bloomers across the state.
