Wildflower Bloom Report

2018 Spring Wildflower Season Has Begun

Posted on 2/23/2018 by State Nature Preserves
Due to the recent warmup of temperatures in the buckeye state, our Ohio wildflower season has begun for 2018! Skunk cabbage, our earliest bloomer, was open and receptive to pollinators in early February at Christmas Rocks State Nature Preserve.

Also at Christmas Rocks, you can see spring beauties starting to show their leaves.

A preserve manager at Miller Sanctuary State Nature Preserve recently spotted a Snow Trillium which means spring can’t be far away! Snow Trillium have also been seen in Adams County.

Also at Miller Sanctuary, a Harbinger of Spring was seen flowering.

Check back with us in early March as we report weekly on the conditions of Ohio’s spring wildflower bloom. Reports will be released each Friday to help plan your weekend.

The Ohio wildflower bloom report is updated weekly with the best places to see spring wildflowers in Ohio as well as specific information on native wildflowers in the state. We encourage you to take spring wildflower photos and upload them to social media using the hashtag, #ohiowildflowers. Follow @ohiodnr and @OhioFindItHere on Twitter and Division of Natural Areas and Preserves on Facebook to see more spring wildflower photos.
